The #ADayOffTwitch movement is starting today which is the day twitch streamers will be on strike because the company continues to overlook harassment on site. Twitch streamers are furiously annoyed with the company’s inability to take action to stop “hate raids” after a lot of streamers have been raided with hate speech when streaming on the platform.
They have decided to take a stand and protest this Wednesday which is today so that the company will take the matter seriously. In early August one of the leaders of the protest RekltRaven tweeted a video of the hate speech in action. Hate Raid is when a user uses bots to fill a channel chat room with hateful and abusive words towards the streamer and viewers.
A spokesman from twitch has said that the protest is being supported by the company twitch and that they do not condone any form of harassment of people based on who they are and what they stand for. This is exactly what he said, “No one should have to experience malicious and hateful attacks based on who they are or what they stand for, and we are working hard on improved channel-level ban evasion detection and additional account improvements to help make Twitch a safer place for creators.”
