It appears that one of the largest cryptocurrency theft ever to happen on this planet has been resolved. It seems to be that there are still what we call good hackers out there. Because this is $610 million dollars stolen by hackers in cryptocurrency has been returned successfully. This money was stolen through a code vulnerability in the Poly network.
the $610 million cryptocurrency stolen by hackers has been returned
The Poly network is one of the most popular networks for managing decentralized currency like bitcoins, ethereum, and more. They work across multiple blockchains to provide the means to swap tokens. The hacker first stole $253 million on Binance smart chain and then later took the remaining $85 million in USDC on the Poly network.
But the funny thing is that after the hacker known as Mr. White Hat took the funds he started to return them immediately. He later contacted the polygons network on Monday morning and provided them with a private key to the remainder of the stolen funds.
To this day we still do not know why the hack decided to return the money after successfully taking it. However, a message left by someone who claims to be the hacker on the digital currency transaction stated that they were “quitting the show” I think this means that the hacker simply wants to go out doing something good. That is why after successfully stealing the money he peacefully returned it as his last legacy of hacking who knows.
This is what the hacker further said. “My actions, which may be considered weird, are my efforts to contribute to the security of the Poly project in my personal style, the consensus was reached in a painful and obscure way, but it works.” Apparently, there were others that were involved in the consensus for him to return the money.
